Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see a therapist even if I didn't have a terrible childhood?

Yes. It is commonly believed that the first thing that a therapist will say is, "so, tell me about your Mother". You can have wonderful Parents but still need to talk.

Will I be told how to make my life better?

No. Our work together will be to enable you to find your own way, in your own time.

Will I be judged ~ will you tell me that I am wrong?

No. Psychotherapy aims to provide an accepting, non judgmental environment.

Is it always a very painful process?

It is true that Psychotherapy can be difficult and painful, but it can also be a blessed relief. Often, to talk about feelings or difficulties for the first time can feel like the most enormous weight being lifted of your shoulders.

Do I have to tell my therapist everything about myself?

No. It is important that you feel safe and in control of how much you are willing to reveal. No therapist should ever persuade you to reveal more than you feel comfortable with.

Are sessions just for individuals?

I only provide psychotherapy for individuals. It is possible though, to find trained psychotherapists who specialise in couples work and group work.
